Artist's Statement
Generally, my work is derived in two ways - conceptual images that develop internally, and images that I discover.  Each method has its appeal and I'm passionate about both.  My conceptual shoots are nurtured from ideas that often become complex  projects.  I find the process of cultivating a concept or idea into a finished artwork very rewarding.  However, these shoots require a lot of planning and eventually leave me longing for simplicity - this is when I turn to capturing the haunting beauty of abandoned and forgotten locations.  With abandonments, the planning is minimal - it's just me and my camera bag.  This form of photography is solitary, spiritual and also very rewarding.  Of equal importance and personal pleasure is the other part of my craft; editing, combining and transforming the raw images into my own unique visual expression.  The image itself often inspires this process.  It may be the overall light, the textures, or the model's expression that will point the way and influence the final artwork - it often takes me in unexpected directions.
